HULL – Danny Ray Bridges, 80, died Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at his residence.
Born on May 26, 1929, in Turner County, he was the son of the late J.D. Bridges and Johnnie Bridges Branch. He graduated from Ashburn High School and served in the United States Navy. After his military service, he married the love of his life, Margaret Owen, on August 6, 1950, and they raised three sons. They moved to the Athens area in 2005 to be near their beloved sons and grandsons. Ray spent most of his working career as an insurance agent. He than pursued his cherished work as golf course manager in Sylvester. An avid golfer, vegetable gardener and computer enthusiast, he was also a Mason and Shriner. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and sang in the choir.
Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Margaret; sons and daughters-in-law, John R. and Jane Bridges, Rikard L. and Judy Bridges, Joseph E. and Peggy Bridges; sister, Betty Jo Bridges Goff, Ireland; grandsons, Blake L. Bridges, J. Daniel Bridges, Benjamin T. Bridges; and Ben’s wife Christina.
A service celebrating his life was held Friday, March 19, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
