JEFFERSON – Freddie Ralph Phillips, 78, died Sunday, February 14, 2010.
Born in Jefferson he was the son of the late Tommie Wilson and Reba Stepp Phillips. He worked as a truck driver with Jones Auto Salvage for 43 years and was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of White Plains Baptist church in Jefferson. Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by his first wife, Sara Helen Arnold Phillips; and brothers, Roscoe and Jesse Phillips.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Shumake Phillips, Jefferson; a daughter, Tammy Hayes, Jefferson; stepdaughter, Elaine Strickland, Danielsville; stepsons, Tony Nunn and Tim Nunn, both of Commerce, Terry Nunn, Jefferson; brother and sister-in-law, Buddy and Lucille Phillips, Cumming; sisters-in-law, Inez Phillips and Annie Phillips, both of Jefferson; a number of nieces and nephews; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 16, at 1 p.m., from the chapel of Evans Funeral Home with the Revs. Wayne Norris, Kevin Page and Hillier Duke officiating. Burial will be in Woodbine Cemetery in Jefferson. Serving as pallbearers will be Bobby Phillips, Tracey Phillips, Caleb Phillips, Nick Potts, Anderson Walford and Buddy Palmer. Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis Moon, George Pittman and Junior Barrett.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the New Beginnings Pentecostal Church, c/o Wayne Norris, 79 Dixon Dr., Jefferson, GA 30549.
The family will receive friends Monday, February 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
