COLBERT – Phyllis Jean Hymer, 74, died Sunday, February 7, 2010.
A native of Owen County, Ind., she was the daughter of the late Robert L. and Violet Donaldson Hancock. Mrs. Hymer was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer “Abe” Delane Hymer; children, Marleana Hymer and Larry Hymer; sisters, Janice Lyons and Myra Fridley; and a brother, Robert Hancock.
She worked with her husband in their construction and masonry business, was a homemaker and a chef at Southern Cross Restaurant. She was a member of various organizations including the Red Hat Society, Cooking Club, Arbor Day Society, Garden Club, Sassy Sisterhood of Colbert and the Magnolia Belles of Danielsville.
Survivors include eight children, Danny (Susan) Kelley, Joey (April) Kelley, Connie (Lynn) Hassell, Carol (Gary) Bergman, Jimmy Hymer, Ginger Becklehimer, Cindy Thompson, and Elaine Hymer; sister, Roberta Ball; brothers, Arthur Hancock, Terry Hancock, Steve Hancock and Mike Hancock; 24 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; pet, Molly; special pen pal, Joyce Anderson; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 11, at 10 a.m., from the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home with the Rev. Fuzzy Lakes officiating. Burial will be in the Madison City Cemetery in Madison. The family will receive friends Wednesday, February 10, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Madison County Relay for Life.
