COMMERCE – Milton Estes Nix Sr., 88, died Thursday, February 4, 2010 at his residence following an extended illness.
Born on September 13, 1921 in Apple Valley, he was the son of the late Dilmus Herbert and Lillian Maley Nix and was educated at Commerce High School. After retirement as vice-president and general manager of A.D. Bolton Chevrolet, he directed the renovation of the Commerce Civic Center and served as its general manager. He was a member for 82 years of the Commerce First United Methodist Church, where he was trustee chairman for 17 years, sang in the choir, a member of the Methodist Men’s S.S. Class and was also a Kiwanis Club member and served with the Commerce Fire Department for 20 years. Mr. Nix was a WWII veteran having served with the United States Navy in the Pacific. He was preceded in death by brothers, Joe, Hal and Herbert Jr.; and a sister, Ruth Nix Crews.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Edith Bolton Nix; sister-in-law, Mrs. Joseph (Eutelle) Nix, Apple Valley; son and daughter-in-law, Milton Nix Jr. (Buddy) and Mackie Nix, Conyers; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy Nix and Jim Goodroe, Spartanburg, S.C.; grandchildren, Milton Nix III (Tony), Kennesaw, Natalie Nix Mitchell and her husband, Russell, McKinney, Texas, Lt. Col. Robert Goodroe and his wife, Jill, El Paso, Texas, Dr. Randall Goodroe and his wife, Liz, Mrytle Beach, S.C. and Rev. Ryan Goodroe and his wife, Andrea, Hartsville, S.C.; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 7, at 2 p.m., at Commerce First United Methodist Church with David Bowen and Jim Goodroe officiating. Burial will follow in Jackson Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday, February 6, from 6-8 p.m.
Doug Bolton, Mike Bower, Randy Goodroe, Rob Goodroe, Russell Mitchell, Johnny Nix, Lamar Nix and Tony Nix will serve as pallbearers.
