Willie Cowart

COMMERCE – Willie Waymon Cowart, 74, died Sunday, January 31, 2010 at Athens Regional Medical Center.
Born in Banks County, he was the son of John and Lucille Dailey Cowart. He was a business owner and a veteran of the United States Army.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Sanders Cowart, Commerce; sister-in-law, Peggy Gleaton, Thomaston; nephews, Terry Dills (Emily), Commerce and Byron Gleaton, Thomaston; niece, Robbin Kent, Thomaston; great-nephews, Adam Dills, Commerce, Logan Kent Carter Gleaton and Nathaniel Gleaton, all of Thomaston; and great-nieces, Amber Chester, Commerce, and Hayle Kent, Thomaston..

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 2, at 2 p.m., at the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home with the Revs. Donald Wilson and Phil Parks officiating. Burial will be in Jackson Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday, February 1, from 6-8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Little-Ward Funeral home, Commerce, is in charge of arrangements.

In away mr.Willie was part of the begining of my life as i know and thank god for today. I, like alot of people struggled w/drug addiction and in the throws of my adiction a friend helped me get a job working for mr.Willie and as i hit rock bottom and was in treatment they held my job for me and when i started work for mr. Willie he taught me alot about "merchindising"and about life.7 yrs later still sober i look back on the oppertunity he gave me that was the foudation of my new life.My husband worked for him on and off since he was 16yrs old and through it all Mr.Willie was always there for him.We will miss him .Our love and Prayers for his Family.

I just recently found out about mr willie cowarts passing when i arrived back in town yesterday. I feel a great loss that i wasn't here to pay my respects.My thoughts and prayers go out to the family.Willie will always be remembered by me and my family.

I have known Willie from when I lived in commerce
I only new him from buying mats for my home projects
but he was always was a kind person who cared about his
customers I just always wanted him to be around whenever I came to the store
he was always a stand up person and treated you with respect
Willie I will miss you and may god watch over your family I know they loved you and miss you.
