WINDER - Theodore R. “Ted” Bruce, 93, died Tuesday, January 19, 2010.
A native of Jackson County, he was the son of the late Bill and Elizabeth Huntsinger Bruce, and was preceded in death by Lottie M. Banks Bruce, his first wife, after 46 years of marriage. He served in the United States Army during World War II, in the European Theatre of Operations, as a forward artillery observer, and was awarded a combat rifleman badge. Prior to retirement, he served in management with Coastal States Life Insurance Company. He was a member of The Winder First Christian Church, and attended Northside Presbyterian Church for the past 25 years. He was a member of the Winder V. F. W.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel Cook Bruce, Winder; children, Ann Bruce Doster, Blue Ridge, Ted W. Bruce, Marietta, and G. Kevin Bruce, Richmond, Va.; stepchildren, Catherine Cook Bray, John Cook, Jr., Judy Cook Bender and Wanda Cook Davis, all of Winder, Cheryl Cook Standard, Gray, Edwin Cook, Jefferson, Larry Cook, Ft. Mill, S.C., and Melinda Cook Burrell, Bogart; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; 14 stepgrandchildren; and 18 step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 22, at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Carter Funeral Home with the Revs. Jim Brooks, Lee Lovett and Hal Doster officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, January 21, from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m.
