HOMER – Jonnie Lee Emmett Dalton, 91, died Tuesday, January 19, 2010, at a private care facility following an extended illness.
Born on March 11, 1918, in Banks County, she was the daughter of the late John and Ruby Guest Emmett. She was a member of the Line Baptist Church, where she served as church clerk for many years, a member of the Banks County AARP, and was a retired school teacher having taught faithfully and proudly for the Banks County School System for over 30 years. Mrs. Dalton was preceded in death by her husband, Cranford Dalton; a son, Jerry Dalton; daughter, Carol Dalton; sisters, June Chesser, Betty Wester, Gladys Westmoreland and Loutrelle Kesler; and brothers, George Giles, Wilton, and Baxter Emmett.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Laurell and Howard Ward, Homer; sisters, Novella Simmons, Baldwin, Bea Roberts, Kennesaw; grandchildren, Cranley and Joy Ward, Baldwin, Beth Dalton, McDonough, Dennis Dalton, Homer, Dwayne Dalton, Florida; and a great-grandson, Thomas Ward, Baldwin.
Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to Hospice of Northeast Georgia Medical Center, 2150 Limestone Pkwy., Suite 222, Gainesville, GA 30501, or to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1841 Clifton Rd., NE, Atlanta, GA 30329.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 22, at 11 a.m., from the Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, with the Revs. Garry Garrison, James Franklin and Scott Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Line Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, January 21, from 4 to 8 p.m.
