MAYSVILLE - Ernest Jerry Pickens, 69, died Monday, January 18, 2010.
He was born on December 18, 1949, in Truman, Ark., the son of the late Ernest C. Pickens Jr. and Hildreth Cox Pickens. He was a respitory therapist for 50 years. He worked at Shallowford Hospital, was a Department Head at Gwinnett Medical Center and recently worked at Northeast Georgia Medical Center. He attended Montgomery Heights Baptist Church in Commerce. Mr. Pickens was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas E. Pickens.
Survivors include wife, Sue Pickens, Maysville; children, Kim and Tim Jones and Chris and Cindy Pickens, all of Jackson, Tenn., Sandy and Steve Bates, Braselton; a sister, Patricia R. Whitehorn, Hope, Miss.; grandchildren, Wesley and Kendall Jones, Kristen, Kallie and Suzanna Pickens, Beth Bates; and several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 20, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Home with the Revs. James Dumas and Jeff Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in the Jackson Memorial Park with Steve Bates, Tim Jones, Anthony Alexander, Raphael Ramierez, Steve Musselwhite and Danny Black honored as pallbearers. The visitation will begin on 12 noon, Tuesday, Jan 19, at the funeral home.
Evans Funeral Home, Jefferson, is in charge of arrangements.

I worked with Jerry at Gwinnett Medical Center. He was a fine man. A man I could call friend.
