HOSCHTON – Rev. Charles W. Payne, 70, died Wednesday, January 6, 2010.
Born on January 17, 1939, in Forsyth County, he was the son of the late N.C. Payne and Allene Payne. He was retired from the Clorox Company after 27 years of service. Rev. Payne was a member of The Peoples Baptist Church in Jefferson and he was pastor of the following churches during his ministry: True Way Baptist Church, Open Doors Baptist Church, New Bethel Baptist Church and Holly Springs Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by sisters, Sarah Payne and Imogene Waits.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Nonnie Sue Higgins Payne, Hoschton; a daughter, Sheila Payne, Hoschton; sisters and brothers-in-law, Margaret and N.W. Stapler, Cumming, and Chechee and Thomas Garmon, Alpharetta; brothers and sisters-in-law, Roger and Marcie Payne, Jasper, the Rev. Jackie Payne and Kathryn Payne, Canton, and Ricky and Sandy Payne, Alpharetta; brother-in-law, J.C. Waits, Dawsonville; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and his beloved dog “Chaz".
Homegoing services will be held Saturday, January 9, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home with the Revs. Joel Shadburn, Wayne Knight and Jackie Payne officiating. Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Duluth. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, January 8, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m.
