JEFFERSON – George Owen Webb, 86, died Tuesday, December 29, 2009.
Born in Jackson County he was the son of the late Addison P. and Dellie Stringer Webb. He owned and operated Owen’s Snack Shack, Dairy Kreme and Owen Webb Sundries for 48 years. Mr. Webb was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Rachel Virginia “Ginny” Brooks Webb; brothers, Delow Webb and Curtis Webb; and a sister, Bernice Ward.
He was a United States Army Veteran, a member of the Unity Masonic Lodge #36 where he served as Past Master, the American Legion, and the Bethany United Methodist Church.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Thelma Jo and Horace Stephens, Talmo, Sherry and Jim Webb III, Dallas, Texas, and Phyllis and David Stancil, Gainesville; grandchildren, Tiffany Wiley, Gainesville, Taff Stephens, Cleveland, Tenn., Kyle Stephens, Talmo, Stephanie and Craig Clark, Gainesville, Laura Webb, Washington, D.C.; great-grandchildren, Courtney Wiley and Cooper Clark, both of Gainesville.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 2, at 11 a.m., from the chapel of Evans Funeral Home with the Revs. Dugar Strickland, Johnny Ray and Mike McLemore officiating. Burial will be in the Center Grove Baptist Church cemetery. Members of the Masonic Lodge will serve as pallbearers and members of the American Legion will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, January 1, from 5 to 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Unity Masonic Lodge #36, 1369 Storey Lane, Jefferson, GA 30549.
