Gene Clayton Shirley, 79, of Winder, died Tuesday, July 8, 2008.
He was born on December 30, 1928, in Jackson County, the son of the late Leo B. and Lauree Park Shirley. He was a pharmacist and a member of the Mountain View Baptist Church in Stone Mountain. Mr. Shirley was a veteran, having served in the United States Navy during World War II, as a Pharmacist Mate.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Eugenia Borders Shirley, Winder; daughters, Lisa M. Shirley, Terri J. Shirley and Pamela J. Ferebee, all of Winder; a son, David C. Shirley, Atlanta; sisters, Betty Lord and Carolyn Merk, both of Commerce, and Marion Salter, Forest Park; brother, Ben Shirley, Commerce; grandchildren, Heather Johnson and Natalie Topham; and a great-grandchild, Ashley Topham.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 10, at 3 p.m., in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Apple Valley Baptist Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Buster Shirley, Chris Shirley, Robin Lord, Phillip Merk, Tim Shirley and Kyran Murnane. The visitation will be held Thursday, July 10, from 1 to 3 p.m., prior to the service.
