HULL – Mildred Elizabeth Floyd Glenn, 94, died Thursday, December 10, 2009, at her residence.
Born in Madison County on May 30, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Jeffers Gratin and Myra Jane Bullock Floyd. She was a graduate of Marsh Business College in Atlanta and was employed as a bookkeeper in that city prior to her marriage. As a lifelong member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, she served in various capacities including Sunday School class president and missionary society president as well as assuming leadership roles in the church extension outreach program. She also worked tirelessly as a community fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association and the Neese Volunteer Fire Department. She was a former president of the Neese Women’s Club and had been a member of the Madison County Chamber of Commerce, the Madison County Friends of the Library, Gordon’s Chapel United Methodist Church Over Fifty Club and the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Silver Club. Mrs. Glenn was preceded in death by her husband, Willis Anderson Glenn; sister, Naomi Floyd Haesler; and brothers, Bill Floyd, Henry Floyd and George Floyd.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Willis Jackson and Sceva Ballew Glenn, Hull; daughter and son-in-law, Anne Glenn Scoggins and James Wilburn Scoggins III, Bremen; grandchildren, Christopher Joseph Glenn and wife, Jenny, Jonathan Andrew Glenn and Jeffrey Anderson Glenn and his wife, Vanessa, all of Hull, James Wilburn Scoggins IV and his wife, Nelly, Albany, N.Y., and Suzanne Elizabeth Scoggins and her husband, Edward Hung, Berkeley, Calif.; great-grandchildren, Holly and Meredith Glenn and Austin, Stephanie and Layton Glenn.
The family wishes to thank caregivers Peggy Seay, Juanita Henson, Dot Anthony, Lisa Collins and Mrs. Glenn’s niece, Betty Ann Willyard, for their loving kindness during her two-year illness. Grateful appreciation is also extended to the staff at Vista Care Hospice.
Funeral services were held Sunday, December 13, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Jonathan Tolbert and Tom Lang officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Musical selections were rendered by Connie Jones. Pallbearers were Gene Brown, Lane Lester, Ed Culberson, Andy Weaver, Steve Rice and E.L. Smith. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Joy Sunday School Class of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
Bridges Funeral Home, Athens, was in charge of arrangements.
