HULL – Robbie Gene “Shorty” Payne, 77, died Thursday, December 3, 2009.
A native of Newton County, he was the son of the late Arlow and Pauline Payne. He retired from Brown Transport after 33 years of service and was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in the Korean Conflict. He was of the Baptist denomination.
Survivors include his wife, Lois Maxey Payne; children and spouses, Denise and Lamar Scarborough, Bowling Green, Ky., Randy and Jacki Payne, Watkinsville, Teresa and Bryon Gordon, and Steven Payne, all of Hull; brothers, Alvin Payne and Leon Payne; seven sisters, Betty Spect, Helen Westmoreland, Angela Ricks, Linda Moyers, Patricia Moody, Myrtle Owens, and Dollie Payne; 10 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 5, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, Danielsville, with the Revs. Ray Jenkins and Lamar Scarborough officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
