ATHENS – George B. Parham, 87, died Wednesday, December 2, 2009.
A native of Union County, he was the son of the late Hershel and Etta Stiles Parham. He served in the United States Army during World War II, serving in the battles of Bismarck, Archipelago, New Guinea, and the Southern Philippines. He was a retired employee of General Time. Mr. Parham was preceded in death by his wife, Clyde Wheeles Parham; sisters, Bernice Gibby and Hazel Dowdy; and a brother, Harold Parham.
Survivors include a stepson and wife, Jerry and Myrtie Hall, Bogart; son, Neal Parham, Dalton; daughter, Colleen Parham, Dalton; brother, Herbert Parham, Blairsville; and sister, Evelyn Deyton, Blairsville; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Friday, December 4, at the Athens Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Carpenter officiating.
Bridges Funeral Home, Athens, was in charge of arrangements.
