GAINESVILLE – Jack House, 87, has died.
He was the son of John William and Clara Jo Hill House. He attended schools in Gainesville, Oakwood, Candler, and graduated from Grayson High School. He worked at Chicopee Manufacturing Plant for 24 years, AT&T cable plant for 19 years, and retired from Lucent Technologies. He also worked with the State Highway Surveyors, Lockheed Industrial Products, and Westinghouse Transformers. He served in the United States Navy for three and one-half years during World War II and 16 months during the Korean War. He was a deacon at Academy Baptist Church, a member of the Unity Masonic Lodge #36 for over 60 years, and was a lifetime member of the American Legion and the VFW. Mr. House was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Louise Porter House; and sisters, Evelyn House Peck and Jewelle House Reed.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Betty Jo and Tony Morris, and Mary Jane and Robert Ables; grandchildren, Jonathan Ables and wife Megan, Jared Ables and Lauren Ables; and a sister, Miriam House Merritt.
Graveside services were held Saturday, October 31, at Jackson Memorial Park in Commerce. Memorial services will be held Saturday, December 5, at 11 a.m., from the Academy Baptist Church in Jefferson with James Merritt and the Rev. Lee Hunter officiating.
