BRASELTON – Richard N. “Richie” Behlog, 74, formerly of New Hartford and currently of Braselton, died Thursday, November 19, 2009, with his loving wife and sons at his bedside.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of the late Anthony and Mary Nassutti Behlog. He was educated in Utica schools. He moved to Utica as a young boy from Brooklyn and resided there until 1988, when he retired to Boca Raton, Fla. In 1999, he and his family moved to Braselton, where he has since lived. On May 5, 1985, he married Terre Winchester in St. Agnes Church in Utica, a blessed union of 24 years.
He was involved in many different businesses during his lifetime, but most notably he was president and owner of Behlog Produce, Inc., of Utica, until his retirement in 1988. Skeet shooting, woodworking and playing golf were his enjoyments in life in addition to his love for traveling, which he did extensively from Europe to Africa and South America to most recently Bangkok, Thailand.
There were many special people in his life, especially Monsignor Francis Willenburg, former Pastor of St. Agnes Church in Utica, and Robert Tedesco and his family of Las Vegas, Nev.
Survivors include his loving wife, Terre; sons, Richard Nicholas Behlog Jr., and Anthony Michael Behlog, both of Braselton; daughter, Lisa Giorgina Behlog, New Hartford; two brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law, Rene Behlog, Binghamton, William and Linda Martin, Savannah, and Richard and Melanie Mayer, West Palm Beach, Fla.; mother-in-law, Ruth Wills, West Palm Beach, Fla.; grandmother-in-law, Louise Renz; aunts and uncles, Paul and Judith Fournier, and Michael and Nancy Renz, all of West Palm Beach, Fla.; nieces and nephews, Peter, Diana, Samantha and Jade Behlog, Binghampton, Brian and Angela Ward, Anthony Richard and Mary DiBenedetto, Tiffany DiBenedetto, Madison DiBenedetto and Christopher DiBenedetto, all of Virginia, and Brittnee and Brianna Mayer, West Palm Beach, Fla.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Samuel Behlog.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 24, at 9:15 a.m., from the Bentz & Amodio Funeral Service, Inc., 470 French Rd., Utica/New Hartford, and at 10:00 a.m. from St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Church, where his Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Entombment will take place in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours for the family and friends are Monday, November 23, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Richie’s family is very grateful to the Hospice organization Compassionate of North Georgia, located in Gainesville.
