HULL – Robert Milton Herring, 83, died Thursday, November 12, 2009.
A native of Oglethorpe County, he was the son of the late John Albert and Roxie Herring. Mr. Herring was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Berrong Herring; sisters, Bessie Davis and Lizzie Mae Morrow; and a brother, Charlie Allison Herring.
He was the owner and operator of Herring Shoe Store for many years and was a veteran of the United States Army during World War II. He was a longtime member of Central Baptist Church and was also a retired minister.
Survivors include his wife, Lavon Herring; stepdaughter, Debbie Sickles, Athens; stepson, William David Smith, Athens; four step-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 14, at 11 a.m., at Central Baptist Church with the Revs. Joel S. Dover, Frank Meadows Jr., and John Verschuren officiating. Burial will be in Colbert Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, November 13, at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m.
