Charles Edward Whitaker died Monday, November 2, 2009.
He was the son of the late Jesse Lee Whitaker and Mammie Lue Whitaker. He was a native of Missouri and attended St. Paul CME Church. He served in the United States Army and was retired twice, after being employed by Royston, where he worked on the road crew for many years. Mr. Whitaker was preceded in death by a brother, Freddie Lee Whitaker Jr.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Whitaker; daughter, Mary Jo Murry, Arkansas; son, Demetrius Hughes, Jefferson; sisters and brothers-in-law, Eva June and Bob Dowell and Anna Lue and Harold Rouse, all of Missouri; many sisters and brothers-in-law; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 5, at 1 p.m., in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home with the Rev. Hubert Langston officiating. Burial will be in Evans Memory Gardens in Jefferson. The family will receive friends Wednesday, November 4, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Evans Funeral Home, Jefferson, is in charge of arrangements.
