Jarnett Wigington

ROCKDALE COUNTY – Jarnett W. Wigington, 77, died Tuesday, October 20, 2009.

Mr. Wigington was preceded in death by his son, Larry Jarnett Wigington.

He began his career at Warren Refrigeration in Atlanta in 1952 and retired after 24 years. He was a member of the Union United Methodist Church since 1961. He also served on the board of directors for Rockdale Hospital in the early 1970s when the hospital was a 23 bed facility. Jarnett was first elected to the board of directors for Snapping Shoals EMC in 1985 and served continuously since that time. He was appointed to the Oglethorpe Power Corporation Board in 1990. In 1996 he became a charter member of the Georgia Systems Operations Corporation Board of Directors. He held positions of secretary-treasurer and vice chairman before being elected chairman in 2005. On the community level he served on the following boards: Rockdale Cares and Friends of the Nancy Guinn Library.

Survivors include his wife, Jo Yarbrough Wigington, Rockdale County; sons, Daryl and Jo Beth Wigington, Keller, Texas, and Jeff and Beth Wigington, Rockdale County; sister, Sandra Jurkiewitsch, Big Canoe; grandchildren, Sam Wigington, Jill Wigington, Larry Wigington, Scott and Stacey Wigington, John Wigington; niece, Amanda Christy; and nephews, Jason Peek, and Bobby Yarbrough.

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 23, at 11 a.m., at the Union United Methodist Church with Paul Gamber and Pastor Howard Greer officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, October 22, from 1 to 4 p.m. and 5 to 9 p.m.
