SANFORD COMMUNITY – Daniel Ronald Leuthner, 33, died Friday, October 16, 2009.
Born in Robbinsdale, Minn., he was the son of Ronald and Cheryl Krenz Leuthner of Nicholson. He graduated from Heritage High School in Conyers in 1994 and earned his BA degree in art marketing at North Georgia College (NGC) in 1999. While at NGC he studied business at Roehampton Institute, London, England. He was a Brother of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity, Delta Bata Chapter and a member of Foxtrot Company in Army ROTC at NGC. He went on to obtain his teaching certificate and Master’s Degree in Special Education at Piedmont College in Athens. He received a Gifted Endorsement from RESA. He was employed by the Jackson County Board of Education as a special education, social studies and math teacher at East Jackson Middle School. He was also the cross country and track coach and the Electric Vehicle Sponsor. He was currently attending the University of Georgia working towards a Specialist Degree in Science. Dan was a member of the Sanford Men’s Cub, Classic City Woodturners and Athens Woodworkers. He was an avid mountain biker, hiker and all around outdoors man.
Survivors in addition to his parents include his wife, Leslie Stone Leuthner; children, Claire Anne Leuthner and Daniel Stone Leuthner; brother and sister-in-law, CPT Scott and Amy Leuthner; nieces and nephews, Emmalee, Samuel, Caroline and Oliver, all of Fort Bragg, N.C.; father and mother-in-law, Albert and Anne Girvan Stone, Sanford Community; aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 23, at 4:30 p.m., at the Gordon’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Hull with the Rev. Bill Coady and Kenneth Dillard officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, October 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Educational Fund for the Leuthner Children, Gwinnett Federal Credit Union, 948 Lee St., Jefferson, GA 30549, or to Merchants & Farmers (First Citizens Bank), P.O. Box 520, Hull, GA 30636.
