GRIFFIN – Charles Louis McPhail Jr., 61, died Sunday, October 11, 2009, at his residence.
Born on May 23, 1948, in Anderson, S.C., he was the son of the late Charles Luis McPhail Sr. and Kathleen Alsena Rogers. He was a member of the Griffin First United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir. He was retired from the Thomaston Upson School System after 38 years of teaching. He was a member of the Phi Mu Alpha Music Fraternity and a long time member of the G.M.E.A. and P.A.G.E. where he was a district board member.
Survivors include his wife, Jan McPhail, Griffin; brother, Roy A. McPhail, Memphis, Tenn.; mother-in-law, Agnes Woodall, Thomaston; brother-in-law, Franklin M. Woodall Jr. and his wife, Angie, Dublin; and a sister-in-law, Jill Woodall, Thomaston.
A memorial concert celebration of life and achievements will be announced at a later time by the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Griffin First United Methodist Church Music Department, the Thomaston First United Methodist Church Music Department, and the Commerce First United Methodist Church Music Department, any animal charity of one’s choice, or the U.G.A. Music Programs in memory of Mr. McPhail.
Haisten McCullough Funeral Home, Griffin, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr McPhail was a great band teacher. I am very thankful to have known him and had him as a band director at Commerce High from 1976-1980. My prayers are with the family. Richard Dills [pickle]
