DANIELSVILLE - Howard Norman Floyd, 84, died Sunday, October 11, 2009.
A native of Elbert County, he was a son of the late Mark and Myrtle Thompson Floyd and was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Harriette Ernestine Floyd.
Mr. Floyd was a 1943 graduate of Madison County High School and a lifelong member of Mt. Hermon Presbyterian Church, where he served as treasurer for over 40 years, as well as many other positions, including elder. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and was retired from the United States Postal Service. He served as Postmaster of Danielsville from 1969 until 1980 and was an active member of the Post Office Has Beens. Mr. Floyd received his 50 year certificate from the American Legion and was a member of the Masonic Lodge since 1952. After his retirement, he was associated with Brown's Funeral Home and Lord & Stephens Funeral Home for many years. Throughout his life, he enjoyed his talents as a musician, vocalist, poet and historian.
Survivors include daughters, Melanie Casatelli, Alpharetta, and Elizabeth "Betsy" Booth, Allen, Texas; grandchildren, Eric Booth, David Booth, Jordan Booth, all of Allen, Texas, and Michael Casatelli, Alpharetta; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 14, at 2 p.m. at Mt. Hermon Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, October 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
