JACKSON – Alvin Lee Smallwood Jr., 82, formerly of Commerce, died Monday, October 5, 2009, at Vitas Hospice in Stockbridge.
Born in Jackson County on June 9, 1927, he was the son of the late Alvin Lee Smallwood and Minnie Lee Smallwood Stockton. Mr. Smallwood was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Mary Edna Smith Smallwood; and nine brothers and sisters.
Survivors include children, Robert Lee Smallwood and Mary Elaine Steadham, both of Jackson, and Melissa Hope Simmons, Locust Grove; 14 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; brothers, William (Bill) Stockton and Grady Stockton; and sisters, Helen Stockton and Mildred Brown.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 8, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home with Pastor David Graham officiating. Burial will be in Grey Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday, October 7, from 6 to 9 p.m.
Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, is in charge of arrangements.
