HEFLIN, LA. - Andrew "Andy" Travis Montgomery Jr. 59, formerly of Hoschton, died Saturday, October 3, 2009 at his residence in Heflin, La.
Born on June 10, 1950, in Lampasas, Texas, he was the son of Evelyn Montgomery and the late Andrew Montgomery. He attended Hamilton High School in Hamilton, Texas, where he was active in band and FFA and graduated in 1968. He attended Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas, where he was a member of the Alpha Zeta Fraternity and graduated in 1972 with a degree in Agricultural Education. Following graduation, he moved to Hoschton, where he taught high school and later owned and operated a video and electronics store in Hoschton. He attained the degree of Master Mason at Rockwell Lodge No. 191 in Hoschton and was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Buford. He moved to Heflin, La. in February, 2009.
Survivors in addition to his mother include a brother, Jim Montgomery; sisters and brothers-in-law, Carleigh and Todd Leake, Heflin, La., and Marcia and George Dickerson, Weston, Colo.; three nieces, Jessica Leigh Haynie and Melanie Cheek Kilburn, both of Hoschton, and Julie Cheek Miller, Dacula.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 10, at the Heflin United Methodist Church at 2 p.m., with Pastor Carol Heard officiating. Burial will be at Caradan Cemetery in Mills County, Texas.
