Harvey H. Chandler, 83, died Tuesday, October 30, 2012. He was lovingly known as “Sonny Boy.”
He was in the United States Army, serving in the Korean War, where he was awarded a Bronze Star. He retired from American Mutual Insurance Company. Mr. Chandler was preceded in death by his parents, Jobe P. and Mary P. Chandler; a brother, Clement Chandler; and sisters, Mildred Steed, Jody Smith and Evelyn Dial.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Jane B. Chandler, Maysville; sons, Harvey H. Chandler Jr., Duluth, and Andrew P. (Barbara) Chandler, Gainesville; daughters, Peggy Chandler (Paul) Steinichen, Duluth, and Elizabeth C. (Mark) Rhines, Huntersville, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; and a sister, Reba Robinson, Winder.

Born in Jackson County, he was the son of the late Paul and Gertrude Cronic Hosch. He was a retired carpenter and plumber. Mr. Hosch was a member of the Church of Hoschton and was a former deacon of Hoschton Baptist Church. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army and was a Fireboard member for the West Jackson Fire Department for 25 years. Mr. Hosch was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Cedelia Reynolds Hosch; and a daughter, Janice Gayle Hosch.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Hosch, Braselton; grandson, Christopher Miccoli, Braselton; and great-grandson, Dylan Miccoli.

She was a loving Christian wife and mother, born August 25, 1918, the daughter of the late Pete C. and Bertha Savage Gilstrap in White County. She worked at a textile mill in Atlanta during World War II and married Harry D. Scroggs on January 13, 1946, shortly after Harry returned from World War II and were blessed with three children. Mrs. Scroggs was a member of First Baptist Church of Oakwood, where she was an active member for 66 years.
Bea was also preceded in death by sons, Glen Frank (18 months), and Charles Wayne (44 years); brothers, Candler (Shorty) Gilstrap, Sam Gilstrap, Earnest Gilstrap, Dillard Gilstrap, and Bill Gilstrap; and sisters, Gussie Bogan, Lucy Head, and Lillie Gooch.
Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Harry Scroggs, Oakwood; son and daughter-in-law, James L. and Barbara Scroggs, Gainesville; former daughter-in-law and husband, Brenda Scroggs and Jimmy Adams; grandchildren, Drs. Marlin Goff (10-29-12)
WINDER - Marlin Fredrick Goff, formerly of Baltimore, Md. and Chillicothe, Ohio, passed from this life to his eternal home on Monday, October 29, 2012, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Marlin’s life began December 14, 1935, in New Holland, Ohio, the son of Monte Freeland Cho Goff and Gelina Mae Dozer Goff. His early life was a struggle as his mother and brother died early. He was raised in a rural family and worked various odd jobs, including oil field service, mechanic, and a race car driver.
He married his wife of 51 years, Marcella Louise Huffman Goff on February 4, 1956 in Richmond, Ind. They lived in Chillicothe, Ohio where they started their family. She predeceased him.
Marlin was an industrious and hardworking man with a winsome wit. He worked for Western Electric as a cable installer and was promoted to estimator for AT & T and moved to Baltimore. While living there, Marlin was active in the International Optimist Club and became a district commissioner for the Boy Scouts of America. He was also a proud member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
A subsequent promotion brought him to Atlanta, where Marlin was instrumental in establishing the foundations of cable, telephone and data transmission. After his retirement, he began a new career as tax preparer for H & R Block for 19 years. He is well known in his community as a loving and sincere man who always tried to help others.
Survivors include a son, Fredrick Goff and his wife, Ralene, Old Saybrook, Conn.; daughter, Angela Sue Boatright and her husband, Allen, Snellville; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 31, at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Carter Funeral Home with Linwood Smith officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday, October 30, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. A private burial will be in Allensville, Ohio.

He was born on April 18, 1927, in Acworth. He was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church and a retired automotive body tech. He served in the United States Navy for five years from 1945-1950. After retiring as a tech, he worked the last 18 years at Lowes in Gainesville. Mr. Landers was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Lee Cayton Landers; and a son, Douglas Neal Landers.
