John Walter Burns, 81, died Monday, February 13, 2012.
A native of Jackson County, he was the son of the late Manita Burns Jackson and John W. Hackney. He retired from the Jefferson Textile Mills and the Jefferson School System, and was a member of Paradise A.M.E. Church, Jefferson. Mr. Burns was preceded in death by a sister, Ms. Sadie Miller, Lincoln, Ala.
Survivors include four daughters, Anita B. Crosby, Rinda McDaniel, both of Stone Mountain, and Kimberly B. Gower, Patricia Fanning, both of Lithonia; a son, Ronald C. Burns, Jefferson; sister, Mary Ellen Byers, Roanoke, Va.; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 12 o'clock noon on Thursday, February 16, at Paradise A.M.E. Church with the Rev. Cassandra Hill officiating. Burial will be held at Paradise A.M.E. Memorial Gardens.
The repast will be held in the lower level of Paradise A.M.E. Church immediately after interment.

She was born in Walhalla, S.C., the daughter of the late Carl and Lessie Orr Hayes. Mrs. Beatty worked at Macklanburg-Duncan in Gainesville for 20 years and was a member of the Mountain Creek Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her children, Lamar Beatty, Wayne Beatty and Glenda Johnson.
Survivors include grandchildren, David and Lisa Beatty, Pendergrass, Shayne and Kim Johnson, Baldwin, Buddy and Margaret Johnson, Pendergrass, and Andrea Lewis, Gainesville; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

BALDWIN - Ronald "Ronnie" Wayman Dunagan, 63, died Saturday, February 11, 2012, at Habersham County Medical Center.
He was the son of Charlotte Starnes Dunagan of Gainesville and the late Gordon Dunagan. He was born January 16, 1949 in Hall County, having lived most of his life in Gainesville and Baldwin. He was a retired State Fire Marshal with the City of Gainesville, a United States Army Vietnam Veteran, having been awarded the Purple Heart, and attended Tates Creek Baptist Church. Mr. Dunagan was preceded in death by two sons, Jason and Clay Dunagan; and a brother Randy Dunagan.
Survivors in addition to his mother include his wife Wanda Whitfield Dunagan, Baldwin; stepsons and their wives, Michael and Brandi Mize, Baldwin, and Matthew and Jamie Mize, Panama City, Fla.; sister and brother-in-law, Pam Mauldin and the Rev. Jerry Mauldin, Gainesville; four grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
