BOGART - Henry McElroy, 90, died Monday, February 20, 2012.
A native of Jersey, Georgia, he was the son of the late John and Jessie Mae Briscoe McElroy. Mr. McElroy was a retired homebuilder and was a United States Army Veteran of World War II. He was a member of The Winder Wesleyan Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Veta Tanner McElroy, Bogart; children, Scott McElroy, Neal McElroy and Ricky McElroy, all of Bogart, Joe McElroy, Hoschton, Phillip McElroy, Winder, and Denise McElroy Johnson and Diane Mathis, both of Winder; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and brother Bobby McElroy, Bogart.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 22, at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Carter Funeral Home, with the Rev. Greg Moore officiating. Burial will be in Barrow Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, February 21, at the funeral home.

LULA - The Reverend Donald Tritt, 93, passed away Monday, February 20, 2012 at his residence.
He was born August 6, 1918, in Suches, the son of the late William B. and Pearl (Davis) Tritt. He started preaching at the age of 33 and continued on for the next 60 years. He pastored numerous churches including Diamond Hill Baptist Church, Pleasant Union Baptist Church, County Line Baptist Church, and part-time at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church in Suches. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Bernice (Abernathy) Tritt; three brothers; and four sisters.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, the Rev. Doug Tritt and Linda Tritt, Lula, and Denver and Sharon "Chubby" Tritt, Gillsville; granddaughter, Misty Berry, Gillsville; granddaughter and husband, Courtney and Pat Canaday, Gillsville; grandson and fiancé, Dustin Tritt and Leia Partain, Lula; granddaughter and husband, Angie and Dustin Poole, Lula; great-grandchildren, Andrew Berry, Kayla Berry and Ella Kate Canaday, all of Gillsville; sister, Ella Mae Beach, Duluth; sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Walter Edge, Suches; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Wayne and Ruby Abernathy, Lula.

JEFFERSON – Trudie Hands left this earthly home to go to her heavenly home on Saturday, February 4, 2012.
On February 8, 1906, she was born, the daughter of the late Robert and Mattie Little Jackson in Perry. She was the oldest of ten children. She attended school in Perry and moved to Florida in 1930 as a migrant worker. She became an entrepreneur, and was married to the late Tim Jones. She later married Mr. Arthur Hands.
She was a member of the St. John Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and was a faithful member of the Mother Board.
Trudie was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Andrew Jackson, Adam Jackson, and Robert Jackson; four sisters, Ola Bohanan, Lizzie Suggs, Ann Stokes, Gladis Anderson, and Mattie Brown.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory her only sibling, Clara Duhart McGriff, Hawkinsville; and a devoted niece, Lila Mason, Jefferson.
Funeral services were held at the Sardis Presbyterian Church on Monday, February 13. Pastor Cheryl Barnes was the Eulogist.

DANIELSVILLE - James Bartow Henry, 95, formerly of Norcross, died Sunday, February 19, 2012.
He was the son of the late James F. and Rosa Mae Henry. He was a United States Navy veteran who served during World War II and was a charter and life member of North DeKalb Lodge #714 F&AM and life member of American Legion Post #251. He was also a life member of the Atlanta Federation of Musicians #148 and #442 and the Atlanta Country Music Hall of Fame. Mr. Henry was receded in death by two sons, Ronald Dean and Steven Nicholas Henry.

HANAHAN, S.C. - Rose Lee Gowder Lane, 82, walked into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, February 15, 2012.
She was born in Homer, on February 25, 1929, daughter of the late Robert and Maggie Gowder. Mrs. Lane was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.
She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was an active member of Remount Baptist Church since 1959. She loved flowers and was a Charter Member and Past President of Berkeley Hills Garden Club. She was also a State Life Member of the Garden Club of South Carolina. She graduated as a Registered Nurse from St. Francis Hospital in July 1950. She was always thinking of others and volunteered at schools, churches, and in her community.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, G.T. Lane, Hanahan, S.C.; daughter: Angie McKissick (Tim), San Jose, Calif.; son, Glenn Lane, Hanahan, S.C.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; brother, Roy Gowder, Lula; and a sister, Rubye McAllister, Gastonia, N.C.

Joe Duncan (2-17-12)
HULL - Aubrey Joe Duncan, 78, passed away after a yearlong battle with cancer Friday, February 17, 2012.
Born in the Goldmine area of Hart County, he was the son of the late Spurgeon and Ammie Duncan. He spent his boyhood on a farm in Franklin County. He was a graduate of Royston High School and attended Emmanuel College. Mr. Duncan served on three Navy ships in his almost four year service to his county in the Korean War. He began his career as a barber on board the Navy ship the "Guadalupe-AO32.” When he returned home, he cut hair in a shop at the Greyhound Bus Station in downtown Atlanta. He and his brother Raymond opened MR. HAIRCUT on Board Street in Athens in June of 1957, where he continued to work until his retirement in 2001 with some 48 years in the haircutting business. Several years before retiring, Mr. Duncan started Duncan Farm Equipment, selling farm equipment and hauling-trailers to the public. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and spent many Saturday afternoons watching the Georgia Bulldogs play at the stadium.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Jackie Duncan, Hull; two daughters, Theresa Cleghorne and Lisa Paski; two sons-on-law, Sam Cleghorne and Nick Paski, all of Comer; four wonderful grandchildren, Ryan and Samantha Cleghorne and Jessica and Elijah Paski; other family members, Raymond and Helen Duncan, Athens, Dewey and Jean Bass, Marietta, and Frank and Darlene Duncan, Comer; and a host of nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and many many friends who will miss him greatly.

He was born May 28, 1934 the son of late James Crawford and Alice Franklin Whitsel in Franklin County Georgia. Mr. Whitsel was preceded in death by brothers, Robert Lee, Edgar, Loy T., Jewell, and Watson; and a sister, Gertrude. He was a longtime active member of Erastus Christian Church. He served in the United States Army having served a tour of duty in Korea, attended the University of Georgia, farmed for many years, and retired from the United States Department of Agriculture, Soil Conservation Service. He was an avid sports fan having played, coached, and umpired softball for many years. He always enjoyed attending activities of his children and grandchildren.
