MAYSVILLE - Esther "Doll" Whitlock, 94, died Tuesday, January 24, 2012, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
She was born in Banks County, the daughter of the late Lon and Emma Westbrooks Gowder. She was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church and was retired from Blue Bell. Mrs. Whitlock was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Whitlock; sons, Johnny Whitlock and Lange Edward Whitlock; and daughter, Marsha Laverne Butler.
Survivors include a daughter, Bonnie Ray, Homer; sons, Bobby Whitlock, Baldwin, and Lewis Whitlock, Lula; brother, Billy Gowder, Athens; ten grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Born in Jackson County on June 22, 1952, he was the son of the late Roy Edward and Bertie Ruth Barrett Blackburn. He was of the Christian Faith and enjoyed getting together with family and friends.
Survivors include his loving wife of 26 years, Cheri Marie Brookshire Blackburn, Homer; sisters and brothers-in-law, Patricia Jean and George Douglas Andrews, Alto, and Deborah Ann and Robert Lee Pritchett, Homer; brother, Kenneth Jerry Blackburn, Cornelia; mother-in-law, Nettie Elaine Zent, Decatur, Ala.; brother-in-law, James Hugh Brookshire, Jr. Madison, Ala.; sister-in-law, Marilyn Lynn Stowe, Decatur, Ala.; and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends.

He was a lifelong resident of Banks County and a United States Army veteran who fought on the front lines in Germany during World War II. Mr. Crocker was an evangelist who enjoyed reading his Bible, fellowshipping with others and gardening. Mr. Crocker was also preceded in death by a son, Stanley Wayne Crocker; sisters, Mary Tims, Lanora Groover, Winnie Crocker; and brothers, Coy Lee Crocker and Laster Crocker.

LULA - Feliciano Mendez, Jr., 68, died Monday, January 9, 2012, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, following an extended illness.
He was born November 1, 1943, the son of the late Feliciano and Timotea Mendez, Sr. Mr. Mendez was a Marine Sergeant where he served three terms in the Vietnam War. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart, two Bronze Stars, and numerous other ribbons and citations. Mr. Mendez was a member of First Baptist Church in Gainesville, VFW and DAV.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Drake Mendez; a son, Vincet Mendez, Sugar Hill; son and daughter-in-law, Andy and Kathy Mendez, Poplar Bluff, Mo.; daughter, Ursula Cade, Portsmouth, Va.; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Angie McKernan, Williamson; daughters, Sondra McKernan, Canton, and Sherry L. Born in Banks County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Earle and Ellen Davis Whitehead. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Mrs. Nation was preceded in death by three children, Linda Allison, John Nation and Bill Nation.
Survivors include children, Patsy Hudgins, Deborah Mason and Donald Nation, all of Maysville, Joyce Hovator, Mena, Ariz., Janice Lichliter, Anderson, S.C., JoAnn Lathan, Lugoff, S.C., Dennis Nation and Ricky Nation, both of Commerce; 21 grandchildren; several great and great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Born in Hillsborough, N.C. on March 16, 1933, he was the son of the late Robert and Nora Ashley Gravette. Mr. Gravette lived most of his life in the Durham-Hillsborough area of North Carolina where he attended the Hillsborough Baptist Church. He was also a heavy equipment operator with the City of Durham, N.C.
Survivors include a son, Michael T. Gravette, Homer; former wife, Mary Lee Johnson, Durham, N.C.; and three grandchildren.
