COMMERCE – James Edgar “Jimmy Sweetman” Seagraves, 80, died Tuesday, September 29, 2009, at his residence.
Born in Jackson County, he was the son of the late Lovic Thurston and Lucy Burroughs Seagraves. He was the owner of Seagraves Sweetshop and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Commerce and the Lions Club. Mr. Seagraves was preceded in death by his daughter, Judy Baxter.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Crawford Seagraves, Commerce; sons and daughters-in-law, Stanley and Maxine Seagraves, Nicholson, and Tim and Denise Seagraves, Russellville, Ala.; a brother, Felton Seagraves, Milledgeville; sister, Ruth Pittman, Nicholson; grandchildren, Jennifer McClintock and husband Rory, Brad Seagraves, Blake Baxter, and T.J. Seagraves; great-grandchild, Braden Seagraves; and son-in-law, Randy Baxter, Athens.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 1, at 2 p.m., from the First United Methodist Church of Commerce with David Bowen and the Rev. Billy Pittman officiating. Burial will be at New Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday, September 30, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, is in charge of arrangements.
