ATHENS - Lisa Chandler Benton, 45, died Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at her residence.
She was born November 29, 1965, in Athens, the daughter of Paul and Rachel Chandler. Lisa graduated from Cedar Shoals High School in 1984 and Coastal Carolina Community College in 1986, where she was trained as a Surgical Technologist. Lisa did her internship at the Navy Hospital in Jacksonville, N.C. She also attended the University of Georgia. During her nursing career, Lisa worked at St. Mary’s Hospital and Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens. She also worked as a traveling contract nurse in several different states including Tennessee, California, New Mexico, Florida, Wisconsin, Texas, Arkansas, Maryland, and Georgia.
Lisa loved to sing and play the piano.
Survivors in addition to her parents include her husband, Wyatt Lee Benton; sister and her husband, Audrey and Mark Garner; two beloved nephews; and a number of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Visitation will be on Saturday, September 3, at 10 a.m. with the service to follow at 11. Burial will be at Calvary Baptist Cemetery in Athens.

COMMERCE - Nicholas Daniel Wilbanks, 18, died Sunday, August 28, 2011 at Athens Regional Medical Center.
He was born April 14, 1993 in Jackson County, Ga., the son of Rodney Lester Wilbanks (Brandy) of Commerce and Leslie Jay Thomason of Nicholson. Nicholas was a member of Baptist Tabernacle and was a rancher. Nicholas was the best calf roper, bull rider, and motocross rider around Jackson County. His loving spirit will always be remembered. He was one of a kind and will always be in our hearts.

MAYSVILLE - Beverly “Bev” Thompson, 79, died Monday, August 29, 2011 at Northridge Medical Center.

Born in Jackson County, he was the son of the late Ira B. and Willie L. Cooper. He was a retired transportation director for Barrow County Schools after 20 years and served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Mr. Cooper was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce E. Cooper.

HOMER - Edith Grace Banks, 89, died on Monday, August, 29, 2011, at the Athens Regional Medical Center.
Miss Banks was born on September 3, 1921, in Franklin County. She was the daughter of the late William Jackson and Maude Elizabeth Means Banks. Miss Banks was also preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters. She was the last member of her immediate family. She was a graduate of Piedmont College where she received a basketball scholarship. Miss Banks taught school for a number of years. She was also employed with the Tilton Equipment Company, where she retired after ten years of service. Miss Banks was a member of the Homer United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her special nephew, Kent R. Payne, Toccoa; close friend, Loretta Barnes, Commerce; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are scheduled for 4 p.m. on Wednesday, August 31, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, with the Rev. James McLendon officiating. COMMERCE – Lillie Elizabeth Parson Mize, 86, died Sunday, August 28, 2011, at Southern Pines Assisted Living in Maysville.
Born in Banks County, she was the daughter of the late Jim and Lou Shannon Parson. Mrs. Mize was preceded in death by her husband, E.B. Mize; daughter, Gail McCoy; and a son, Rickey Mize.
Survivors include children, Willie Lou (Jerry) Mize Stoyle, Danielsville, Jams T. (Sandra) Mize, Hoschton, and Ty (Susan) Mize, Commerce; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

WINDER - Doris Futral Watts, 93, died Sunday, August 28, 2011.
Born May 21, 1918 in Wadley, Jefferson County, Ga., she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John W. (Maudie) Futral Sr. of Wadley. She graduated from Wadley High School in 1935 as Valedictorian and attended Tift College before graduating from The University of Georgia in 1940, where she was a member of Phi Kappa Phi. She then taught school in Calhoun and in Marietta.
She married Hubert S. Watts of Fairmont in 1941 and they bought Winder Auto Parts in Winder in 1949, where they owned and operated the store until 1970. Mr. and Mrs. Watts were faithful members of the Winder First United Methodist Church. She treasured memories of the Suzanna Wesley Sunday School Class, bridge clubs, circles and other civic organizations.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by a sister, Alice Futral Williams, Wadley; brother, John W. Futral Jr., Rocklin, Calif.
Survivors include twin sisters, Carolyn Futral Hamrick, Perry, and Dr. Cathryn Futral, Forsyth; nieces and nephews, Linda Williams Jordan, West Point, Tenn., Susan Williams (Dan) Lawson, Dalton, C. Roy (Nadia) Williams Jr., Martinez, John H. Futral, Rocklin, Calif., Simmons (Dana) Watts, Conyers, Marva Watts (Bobby) Watts, Monticello, Lean Watts (Wayne) Broadway, Lindale; and a host of loving great and great-great-nieces and nephews.
