WINDER - Steve Beard, 57, died Sunday, July 24, 2011.
A native of Gwinnett County, he was preceded in death by his father, Bonnie Beard. He was of the Baptist denomination and a member of Buford Lodge #292, F.&A.M. Mr. Beard was an engineer with the Georgia Department of Corrections. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force.
Survivors include companion, Connie Disney; parents, Joyce and John Greenway; step-son, Kyle Disney; stepbrothers and stepsisters-in-law, Larry and Yvonee Greenway and Johnny and Jo Ann Greenway; step-nephews, Neil, Logan and Benjamin Greenway; step-niece, Brittany Boughtin; uncle and aunts, Fred and Barbara Banks, Lucy Stancel and Opal Beard.

FLOWERY BRANCH - Dorine Cash Greenway, 95, died Sunday, July 24, 2011, at her residence.
She was the daughter of the late Jacob D. and Noda Hadaway Cash. She was a graduate of the University of Georgia and was a special education teacher with the Hall County School System until her retirement in 1978. After retirement she taught the Sunshine Class at the Gainesville First United Methodist Church for 25 years. She was a member of Blackshear Place Baptist Church and the Ben Pethel Sunday School class. She was preceded in death by her husband, Garnett Franklin Greenway; brothers, Delbert Cash and Louis Cash; sister, Viola Knight; son-in-law, Bobby Blanton; and daughter-in-law, Karen Greenway.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Frances and William Sexton, Hephzibah, Anne Blanton, Eufala, Ala., Jean and John Higginbotham, Avondale, Ariz.; sons and daughters-in-law, Frank and Joann Greenway, Flowery Branch, and David and Marjie Greenway, Murrayville; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

FLOWERY BRANCH - Spencer Ernest Balmer, 76, of Flowery Branch died on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at his residence.
He was born to the late Ralph and Virginia Balmer in Campbellton, New Brunswick, Canada. He was an executive in the paper industry. He and his wife lived and worked on five continents during his long career. Mr. Balmer was preceded in death by a son, Marshall Balmer; two brothers, Ralph and Marshall Balmer; and a sister, Rhene Balmer.

He was a longtime member of Bethabra Baptist Church where he served as chairman of the Board of Deacons. He was a retiree of General Telephone Company and General Motors, and was a retired farmer.

LAWRENCEVILLE – Willie Lamar “W.L.” Sims, 91, formerly of Decatur, died Monday, July 11, 2011.
Born in Monroe, he attended Winder High School and was employed by Carwood Manufacturing Company from 1938 to 1942 before serving in the United States Army during World War II. He was awarded the Bronze Star and a Purple Heart for his service. He was co-owner/operator of Sims Radiator Service, with locations in Decatur, Chamblee, Conyers and Lawrenceville. He was a member of Mt. Carmel Christian Church for 56 years, where he taught Sunday School and served as a greeter for many years. Mr. Sims was preceded in death by his wife, Clara “Estelle” Phillips Sims.
Survivors include children, Dianne Bunn, Conyers, Barbara Bush, Lawrenceville, Phillip (Christy) Sims, Gainesville; grandchildren, Rebekah (Derrell) Roberts, Conyers, Jennifer (Jon) Day, Carrollton, Keith (Lori) Bunn and John Paul (Jessica) Bush, all of Suwanee, Phillip Sims, David Sims, Atlanta, Paul (Flor) Sims, Allanah Sims, Gainesville; and six great-grandchildren.
