COMER - Vonder L. Smith died peacefully in her sleep, Saturday, May 28, 2011.
Born in Madison County in 1920, she lived her entire life on the seventh generation family farm. She was the daughter of the late Melvin and Effie Dudley Thompson of Comer. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Charles H.S. Smith Jr.; and a brother, Rudolph Thompson. She worked her younger years on the family farm and later retired from Rockwell Automation. In her retirement years she became an avid flower gardener with a particular love for roses.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Charles M.(Jack) Smith and Jerri Smith, Comer; four grandchildren, Dr. Charles M. (Chuck) Smith, Jr. (Ashley), Hartwell, Jeff Smith (Kerith), Stephen Smith and Lisa West (Tommy), Comer; nine great–grandchildren, Charles M.(Chad) Smith, III, Mary Kate Smith and Sophia Smith, all of Hartwell, Shelby Smith, Mark Smith, Jessica Smith, Makayla West, Chase West and Olivia West, all of Comer; and two step-grandchildren, Charlie Milford and Maggie McGee, Hartwell.
Mrs. Smith requested that no formal services be held, however a private remembrance of her will be held at a later date at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Charles M. Smith.
A special thanks is extended to St. Mary’s Hospice Care for making her last days as pleasant as possible. Also a special thanks goes to her caregivers, Missy Hale, Joyce Loden and Daisy Williford.

DANIELSVILLE – Emma Ruth Sartain Gordon, 73, died Thursday, May 26, 2011, at the Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville.
Born in Madison County on May 12, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Lee and Ina Mae Martin Sartain. She was a homemaker and a farmer. Mrs. Gordon was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church in Danielsville. Mrs. Gordon was preceded in death by brothers, Earl, Sam and Paul Sartain; and a sister, Ann Scarborough.
Survivors include her husband, Sammy Gordon, Danielsville; a son, Mike Gordon, Danielsville; daughters, Donna Brooks and Alice Herring, both of Danielsville; brothers, Neal Sartain, Grayson, and Max Sartain, Danielsville; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 28, at 2 p.m., at the Trinity Baptist Church in Danielsville with the Revs. Robbie Brown and David Bailey officiating. Burial will be in the Jones Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Tammi Smith Barker, wife of James (Jimmy) Millard Barker, III, died Friday, May 20, 2011, at her residence.
She was the daughter of Junious Marion (Pete) and Dorothy (Dotty) Smith. She was a loving wife, mother, daughter, daughter-in-law and friend. She was an honor student of the University of Georgia where she received her master’s and specialist degrees. She taught Business Education at Madison County High School. She was a lifelong member of Falling Creek Baptist Church and was a Sunday School teacher for the True Blue Sunday School Class.
Survivors in addition to her parents and her husband include children, James Millard Barker, IV (Miles) and Elizabeth Addison Barker; mother-in-law, Anne Marie Dixon Jaudon and stepfather-in-law, Henry Scudder Jaudon.

COMER – Jerry Dupree Anglin, 49, died suddenly at Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens on Thursday, May 19, 2011.
Born on March 20, 1962, he was the son of the Rev. William Dupree and Helen Flowers Anglin in Atlanta. He served his country honorably in the United States Army and attended Welcome Avenue Congregational Holiness Church. Mr. Anglin was preceded in death by his wife, Tracy Glover Anglin.

Born on October 6, 1927, he was the son of the late Robert and Ollie Monroe Griffeth in Danielsville. He served honorably in the United States Navy during World War II aboard the USS Tidewater, was a heavy equipment mechanic, and was the former mayor of Danielsville.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Mary Bob Burroughs Griffeth, Danielsville; four children, Doug and Patti Griffeth, Bethlehem, Don Griffeth, Bob Griffeth and Robin Griffeth, all of Danielsville; five grandchildren, Lacey Griffeth, Douglas Griffeth, Allison Griffeth, Harley Whitehead, and Colt Whitehead.

Born in Winder on January 25, 1975, she was the daughter of Juanita Hayes Bland of Hull and the late Charles Thomas Brock. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist denomination.

MOULTRIE - Marjorie Crawford Parker, 86, died Thursday, May 12, 2011, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.
Born April 24, 1925, in Detroit, Mich., she was daughter of the late Joseph William Crawford of Doerun and Emmie Tucker Crawford of Shady Dale. She graduated from Doerun High School and Norman Baptist College. She was a former secretary for Colonel Frank Howard of the Spence Field fighter training squadron during World War II. After the birth of her children, she was a devoted fulltime mother and homemaker. She was a dedicated member of Doerun Methodist Church for 74 years, the longest serving member at her death. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW and an avid bingo player. Mrs. Parker was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Donald Horne Parker, in 2006; and her only sister, Peggy Grice of North Carolina.
Survivors include four daughters, Judy Parham and husband Jimmy, Comer, Suellen Pitts and husband Jesse, Janis Paulk and Betsy Parker, all of Moultrie; six grandchildren: Hank Pitts, Moultrie, Sara Paulk Heady, USN, and husband Craig, Atsugi, Japan, Lindsay Paulk Martin, and husband Josh of Norfolk, Va., Cole Paulk, USN, of Portsmouth, N.H., Steve Sanders and wife Anna of Columbia, S.C., and Lara Sanders, Athens; one great-grandchild, Jarrett Martin; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Born in Colbert, he was the son of the late Sam W. and Minnie Akin Coile. He was retired from Georgia Natural Gas Company as a Distribution Supervisor, served his country in the United States Army Reserves for 20 years, was a volunteer fireman at the Ila Volunteer Fire Department, and was a member of Union Baptist Church where he was a deacon.
Survivors in addition to his wife, Hythen, include two children and their spouses, Michael and Sonia Coile, Jill and Kevin Porterfield; sisters, Carol Fields, Linda Barner, Sandra Hudson; and three grandchildren; McKenna Coile, Hayden Coile and Sam Porterfield.
