JEFFERSON – Linda M. Howington Looney “Poochie,” 68, died Sunday, January 30, 2011.
Born on April 6, 1942, in Jackson County, she was the daughter of Sarah Anderson Howington of Jefferson and the late Roy Hoodie Howington. She was a retired from the U.S. Post Office, where she was a letter carrier. She was a member of the Bethany United Methodist Church.
Survivors in addition to her mother include her husband, Roy Looney; daughters, Angela Marie Burgess, Dora Tina Jarrard, Mykayla Marie Looney, all of Jefferson; son, Jeffery Roy Looney, Jefferson; sister, Betty Joe Standridge, Jefferson; brothers, Leroy Howington, Savannah, and Steve Howington, Jefferson; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 1, at 1 p.m., from the Bethany United Methodist hurch with the Revs. Charles Reece and Johnny Ray officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Jonathan Gary, Jeff Brown, Greg Howington, Drew Looney, Zach Oxner and Benji Oxner honored as pallbearers. WINDER - Mattie “Laurene” Martin, 89, died Saturday, January 29, 2011.
Born in Watkinsville, she was the daughter of the late James P. and Addie Bell Brewer Hardigree. She was preceded in death by her husband, Voltie Martin; and a brother, James Ezra Hardigree.
Mrs. Martin was a founder and charter member of The Apostolic Church of the Lord Jesus Christ. She was the “Bingo Queen” at Winder Health Care and was a retired seamstress from Statham Garment Company.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Zelma Martin, Lawrenceville, and Larry and Janet Martin, Hoschton; daughters, Peggy Whelchel, Winder, and Susan Martin, Atlanta; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

JEFFERSON - Elmo Waller, 94, died Sunday, January 30, 2011.
Born in Upson County, he was the son of the late Neugent and Nellie Gilbert Waller. He was a retired office manager with Jackson Electric Membership Corporation after 19 years of service, a member of the Jefferson Rotary Club, a member and former Deacon of the Jefferson First Baptist Church, where he also taught Sunday School in the Baraca Sunday School Class. Mr. Waller was an avid gardener and shared the fruits of his labor with his neighbors.
Survivors include wife, Nell McCard Waller, Jefferson; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Gail Waller, Covington, and Tim and LuAnn Waller, Sandy Springs; one sister, Frances Young, Smyrna; two grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 2, at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Jefferson with Michael Helms and the Rev. Bill Carpenter officiating. Donald Ray Kirkindoll
WACO, TEXAS – Donald Ray Kirkindoll, 79, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, January 20, 2011.
Born in Mt. Vernon, Texas, on January 1, 1932, he was the son of Charles and Rexie (Johnson) Kirkindoll. He attended Baylor University, where he met his wife, Shirley Thomas Kirkindoll. Mr. Kirkindoll then served with honor in the United States Army from 1951 to 1955 as a Captain of an Ordinance Unit in Europe. After graduating from Baylor University, he taught school for ten years. He then began working in the fledgling computer industry where he worked on collision avoidance systems for airlines and helped develop the first cell phone switch while at Northern Telecom. Upon retirement, he and his cherished wife of 59 years, traveled full-time in their RV, camping in all of the 48 contiguous states.
Mr. Kirkindoll’s highest priority in life was his family. Having made his profession of faith at 9 years old, he reared his children with the guidance of the Holy Bible and instilled in them the value of the church. He loved to laugh and sing, truly enjoying being with his friends and family as they did. He loved sports of all kinds, spending his life playing, coaching and watching them. He most recently loved to watch Lady Baylor Bears Basketball team. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and loved to greet each and every person who entered the door. Mr. Kirkindoll had a wonderful sense of humor, incredible integrity, and deep and abiding love for Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior. He will be truly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife and soul mate, Shirley Thomas Kirkindoll, whom he married in 1951; three children, Dr. Michael Kirkindoll and wife, Donna, Jefferson, Donald W. Kirkindoll and wife, Jackie, San Antonio, Texas, and Dale E. Kirkindoll and wife, Liz, Baton Rouge, La.; five grandchildren, Julie Kirkindoll and David Kirkindoll, Jefferson, Don Kirkindoll and wife, Kriss, Columbia, S.C., Grayson Kirkindoll and Holt Kirkindoll, Baton Rouge, La.; and one great-grandchild, Natalie Kirkindoll, Columbia, S.C.

Born in the Shiloh Community in Madison County, on December 24, 1928, he was the son of the late Rueben Tyner Sr. and Pauline Bruce Tyner. He was a 20-year retiree of the United States Air Force, where he served as Master Sergeant during the Korean Conflict. He also worked for 17 years as a supervisor for Terminal Trucking Company. He was a Mason with the Glenwood Lodge and attended the Jones Chapel United Methodist Church. Mr. Tyner was preceded in death by his wife, Ferrol Carey Tyner.
Survivors include daughters, Sylvia Faucett, Colbert, and Cheryl Tyner, Decatur; grandchildren, Joseph Faucett, James Faucett and Elizabeth Faucett; great-grandchildren, Vanessa Faucett-Williams and Dylan Pappe-Vining; brothers, Wilbur Tyner, Bogart, Alvin Tyner, Charleston, S.C., and Rueben Tyner Jr., Danielsville; and a sister, Katie Tyner Gunnells, Hull.
