WATKINSVILLE – Dorothy “Dot” Weirauch Hayes, 86, died Wednesday, June 2, 2010.
A native of Oconee County, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Leona Maxey Porterfield. She was a lifelong resident of Oconee County and was a member of Watkinsville Christian Church. Mrs. Hayes was preceded in death by two husbands, Charles Weirauch and Shelnutt Hayes; a brother and sister-in-law, Henry “Ford” and Beverly Porterfield.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Mike Martin, Watkinsville; son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Susan Weirauch, Bogart; brothers and sisters-in-law, Billy and Juanita Porterfield, Watkinsville, and Bobby and Marion Porterfield, Bishop; sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Gene Thornton, Watkinsville; four grandchildren, Wade and Nichole Martin, Wes and Dana Martin, Nicole Weirauch and Michelle Weirauch; four great-grandchildren, Caroline Martin, Catie Mae Martin, Reid Martin and Lilli Martin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 5, at 3 p.m., from the chapel of Lord & Stephens, West, with the Rev. Doug Ivey officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park. STATHAM - Jordan Leroy Carter, 71, died Monday, June 1, 2010.
Born in Baltimore, Md., he was the son of the late Wesley L. and Marie J. Carter. He had served in the United States Air Force and had been employed by Wal-Mart.
Survivors include sisters, Margaret Stewart and Raberta Knight, both of Monroe, La., and Rose E. Stepanek, Statham; 12 nieces and nephews; and eight great nieces and nephews.

Born in Hart County on January 12, 1929, he was the son of the late Otha C. and Quillie Winn Mize. He was a farmer and member of the Holly Springs Baptist Church. Mr. Mize was preceded in death by brothers, Julius, Lee, Ernest, Warren and Wilbur Mize; and two sisters, Dora Whitmire and Alice Todd.

Born in Athens, she was the daughter of Bernice Thomas Anglin of Jacksonville, Fla., and the late Bill Anglin. She worked as an insurance biller in the medical field and was a member of Faith Baptist Church. Mrs. Anton was preceded in death by her brother, Thurmond Anglin.

He was a self-employed business owner of Burkhalter Trenching and Boring and was a retired racecar driver and avid sportsman. Mr. Burkhalter was preceded in death by a daughter, Wanda Dale Burkhalter; five brothers, Ellis, James, George David Jr., Hubert and Donnie; and four sisters, Kate and Sue Meeler, Sandra Mobley and Helen Hix.

Born in the Cedar Hill Community of Winder, she was the daughter of the late Luciaus Preston “Luke” Abner and Elmer Stancil Abner. She was married to the late Harry N. “Red” Cronic for 50 years. A member of Winder First Christian Church since June 1946 she had served on the Church Official Board, was a Sunday school teacher, held offices in the Christian Women’s Fellowship and had been secretary/treasurer of the Friendship Sunday School Class for more than 40 years. She graduated from Winder High School in 1944 and retired from The Winder News in 1992, after 47 years of service.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Lynn Hamilton Gamman and Greg Gamman, Aliso Viejo, Calif.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Billy Abner, Winder and Pharr Abner, Winter Park, Fla.; sisters, Flora Abner Shedd and Barbara Abner Bowen, both of Winder; five nephews; and two nieces.

Eugene “Gene” Coker, 71, died Saturday, May 29, 2010, at his residence.
Born in Banks County on July 5, 1938, he was the son of the late Henry and Genie Hill Coker. He was retired as a self-employed auto trader having owned and operated Coker’s Used Trucks. He attended Cornelia Congregational Holiness Church and enjoyed fishing, gardening and “loafering.” He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, loved ones stated. Mr. Coker was preceded in death by sisters, Lois Tara, Elouise Mann, Gloria Cotton, Ruby Whitefield and Guynell Coker; and a brother, James Coker.
