BELTON, S.C. – Julia Beatrice Brewer Broome, 84, died Tuesday, June 29, 2010, at Hospice of the Upstate.
Born in Gillsville on May 31, 1926, she was the daughter of the late W. Otis and Margie Patton Brewer. She was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church in Belton, S.C. Mrs. Broome was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph P. Broome; brothers, Ralph, Jack and Aubrey Brewer; and a sister, Mozelle Bellamy.
Survivors include daughters, Regenia Ashley and husband, Roger, and Janetta Escoe, all of Belton, S.C.; sister, Marcus Parks, Athens; grandchildren, Brian Ashley, Kristi Marett, Brandon Ashley, Bradley Escoe and Amanda Lollis; great-grandchildren, Walker Ashley, Oliver Marett, Cameron Ashley and Olivia Marett.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 1, at 3 p.m., from the chapel of Cox Funeral Home with Roger Branch and the Rev. Daryle Hawthorne officiating. Burial will be at Shady Grove Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, July 1, prior to the service from 1 p.m. until 2:45 p.m.

Born in Atlanta, she was the daughter of the late Herman Oliver and Catherine Elizabeth (Brand) Brookshire. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother, loved ones stated. She was a devout Christian and was a member of First Baptist Church of Oakwood, where she taught Sunday School. She was also a member of the Eastern Star.

Ida Mae (Lewallen) Smith, 90, formerly of Homer and Commerce, died peacefully in Hamilton, Mont., Sunday, June 13, 2010.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her, loved ones stated.
Survivors include her son Gail Patrick Smith and his wife Cathleen Watson-Smith, Montana; three granddaughters, Shari Williams, Florida, Kayla Wilson, Texas, and Erin Smith, Washington; and five great-grandchildren.
The body will be cremated and at a later date brought back to Commerce.

LULA – James Carl “J.C.” Hooper, 90, died Friday, June 11, 2010, at BJC Hospital in Commerce, following an extended illness.
Born in Hall County, he was the son of the late Jim and Ora Belle Stone Hooper. He was retired from the Gainesville Mill and was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Banks County. Mr. Hooper was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Nell McGee Hooper; and a sister, Carrie Maldonado.
He served with the United States Army in World War II, where he served in three Major Campaigns, including Invasion of Normandy, Northern France and Rhineland. He received the World War II Victory Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the European American Middle Eastern Service Medal. He was a member of the Paul E. Bolding Post 7 American Legion for over 60 years and was a member of the V.F.W., Sons of American Revolution, Banks County Middle River Volunteers and a life member of the D.A.V. Gainesville-Hall Chapter.
Survivors include his wife, Ethelene White Hooper, Lula; son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Patsy Hooper, Homer; daughter, Barbara Ann Hooper, Gainesville; brother, Herman Hooper, Gainesville; five stepchildren; grandchildren, Dana and Greg Abernathy, Cornelia; six step-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.

She enjoyed sewing and sharing with others. Mrs. Doss was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Clinton Doss; a brother, H.W. “Buddy” Brewer; an infant brother, Albert Ronald Brewer; and an infant sister, Lucille Brewer.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be greatly missed by her family and friends, loved ones stated.

Mr. Coker was preceded in death by sisters, Lois Tara, Elouise Mann, Gloria Cotton, Ruby Whitefield and Guynell Coker; and a brother, James Coker.
