‘Millie’ David
DANIELSVILLE – Mildred “Millie” Hawks David, 91, died Monday, February 15, 2010, at Athens Regional Medical Center.
Born in Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late Warren Claud and Leona McConnell Hawks. She was a follower of Christ and a devoted and faithful wife of Frank David for 69 years. The beliefs, values and disciplines important to her were obvious in the way she lived her life as a wife, mother and homemaker. These were lived not just talked about. She was passing down to her family, without really trying, not only traditions, but also endearing and funny recollections that are still talked about whenever they are together. The grandchildren, especially, seem to have an abundance of those recollections.
Reared in Jackson County, she has friends all over the world due to her travels as a military wife. Even though most of her time was spent meeting the needs of her family, she still made time to become an accomplished artist, seamstress, Sunday School teacher, choir member, gardener and care provider for aging parents and neighbors in need. With no formal training, she taught herself to play the piano and spent many hours providing entertainment for her family. She was also a superior homemaker and cook; and no matter where her family was stationed, she always shared her many talents and abilities with friends and church family members. Until she became disabled by Parkinson’s disease, she was an active member of the Danielsville United Methodist Church, its choir, adult Sunday school staff and UMW. Already, she is deeply missed but is with Jesus and reunited with her first and only love, Frank.
Survivors include daughters, Anna David Martin and husband Jess, Danielsville, Eloise David Manders, Danielsville; son, Byron Wade David and wife Shelia, Colbert; sisters, Dorothy Hawks Erdman, Missouri, and Evelyn Harks Haynes, Danielsville; brother, Harold Hawks, Nicholson; grandchildren, David, Aaron and Jeremy Martin, Clark David, Jennifer Pursley and Jan Dempsey, Marisa Stephens, Kip, Adam and Zach Manders; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 18, from the Danielsville United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. with the Revs. Dayton Logan and Calvin Ward officiating. She will lie in state at the church from 12 until the funeral time. Burial will be at Friendship Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, February 17, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
