Born in Jackson County he was the son of the late James E. and Vera Boone Herbert. He was a retired steakhouse restaurant owner and was a veteran having served in the United States Navy. Mr. Herbert was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Herbert.
Survivors include sons, William Phillip Herbert and Robert Wafford Herbert; daughter, Karen Johnson; brother, Kenneth Herbert, Stone Mountain; and a number of friends.

A native of Jackson County, he was the son of the late Bill and Elizabeth Huntsinger Bruce, and was preceded in death by Lottie M. Banks Bruce, his first wife, after 46 years of marriage. He served in the United States Army during World War II, in the European Theatre of Operations, as a forward artillery observer, and was awarded a combat rifleman badge. Prior to retirement, he served in management with Coastal States Life Insurance Company. He was a member of The Winder First Christian Church, and attended Northside Presbyterian Church for the past 25 years. He was a member of the Winder V. F. W.

She was an avid gardener who loved to share her vegetables and flowers, was an avid traveler and shopper and loved cooking, music and reading her Bible. She loved her family and grandchildren and “social time” with all of her family, friends and extended family, loved ones stated. Mrs. Turner was preceded in death by brothers, Roy Ward, George Ward, Albert Ward and Glenn Ward Jr.; sisters, Mary Lou Lankford, Mildred Hilsman, Rushie Ward and Lucy Grace Ward; and father and mother-in-law, W.F. and Floyce Turner.

Survivors include sons, Tommy (Deborah) Lackey, Hull, and Randy (Jayne) Lackey, Ila; grandchildren, Shana Hoopaugh, Lee Lackey, Chanda Cowart, and Kyle Lackey; four great-grandchildren; siblings, Gene Lackey, Hull, Barbara (Kenneth) Jordan, Ila, Bonnie Campbell, Orlando, Fla., and Ruth Lackey, Charlotte, N.C.
Funeral and committal services will be conducted Friday, January 22, at 2 p.m., from the Community Baptist Church with Kent Barrett and the Rev. Phil Parks officiating. Burial will be in the Lackey Chandler Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, January 21, from 6 to 9 p.m. Mr. Lackey will lie in state at the church on Friday from 1:30 until the time of service.
