LULA – Gene Edison Martin, 70, died Tuesday, January 19, 2010, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following an extended illness.
Born on March 27, 1939, in Jackson County, he was the son of the late Dee and Cynthia Haynes Martin. He was a truck driver and was of the Baptist denomination. Mr. Martin was preceded in death by a brother, William D. Martin; and sisters, Betty Jo Langley and Maxine Marie Moss.
Survivors include his companion, Ruth Downey, Lula; sister, Annette M. Beck, Hoschton; brothers and sisters-in-law, William Tony and Hazel Martin, Cleveland, and Kenneth Phillip and Shirley Martin; and many nieces and nephews.

He was born on September 6, 1920, in Banks County, the son of the late Will and Nancy Kelley Brady. Mr. Brady was preceded in death by his wives, Mary Sue Bennett Brady and Marsha Sears Brady; a son, Everage Brady; grandchild and a great-grandchild; brothers, Otha, Owen and Boyd Brady; and sisters, Ola Ausburn, Violet Westbrooks, Mary Hays and Florine Thompson. He was a member and deacon of the Damascus Baptist Church and was retired as a supervisor from Robinson Furniture and Toccoa Manufacturing with 40 years of service. He was a veteran of the United States Army during World War II, having served his country bravely and received the Purple Heart Medal for Valor.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cornelia, a member of the Currahee Mountain Good Sams RV Camping Group, and was a United States Navy Veteran, having proudly served his country during World War II, receiving the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He was a very accomplished wood worker.

LULA – James Richard Turner, 74, died Tuesday, January 26, 2010, at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
Born on June 11, 1935, in Hall County, he was the son of the late Claud L. and Rader Dodd Turner. He was a retired engineer from the Georgia Department of Transportation and attended the Lula Worship Center. He was very active in his community and was former president and a founding member of the Lula Area Betterment Association. He was an avid gardener and fisherman, and was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Mr. Turner was preceded in death by brothers, Lester Turner, Clyde Turner and Benny Turner; and sisters, Imogene Lewallen, Altheda Davis and Joyce Burke.

LAVONIA – Martha Ledbetter Andrews, 99, died Monday, January 18, 2010, at Brown Memorial Convalescent Center in Royston.
Born on September 14, 1910, in Hart County, she was the daughter of the late John and Alpha Grubbs Ledbetter. She was a member of Golden Agers Club, Franklin County Home Demonstration Club and Lavonia First Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and volunteered at the Carnesville Elementary School Library. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 20, at 2 p.m., at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with the Revs. Paul Brafford and Richard Bielski, Steve Andrews and Larry Finger officiating. Burial will be in Franklin Memorial Gardens-North. The family will be at their respective homes and will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday, January 19, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Born on October 26, 1927, in Banks County, she was the daughter of the late Grover Cleveland and Viola Ward Andrews. She was a member of the Lamar Christian Church and was a homemaker. Mrs. Parker was preceded in death by husband, Luther Parker; sisters, Rumyrthe Wilbanks, Christine Wilkinson and June White; and brothers, Carman Andrews and Jack Andrews.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Lamar and Janice Parker, Cornelia, Greg and Vickie Parker, Baldwin; sister-in-law, Elise Mae Andrews, Baldwin; brother-in-law, Garner White, Baldwin; granddaughters and their spouses, Holly and Chris Woods, Hollywood, Mandy and J.D. Dalton, Homer; grandson, Clyde Parker, Baldwin; and great-grandchildren, Cheyanne Dalton and Montana Dalton, Homer.
