Born in Jackson County he was the son of the late Ruel and Annie Blalock Standridge. He was retired from Columbia Farms Feed Mill as an assistant plant manager.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Jean McKie Standridge, Maysville; daughters, Paula Smith, Maysville, and Janet Brown, Jefferson; a son, Duane Standridge, Commerce; sisters, Ann Chitwood and Mary Daniels, both of Commerce; brothers, Samuel Standridge, Commerce, Billy Standridge, Texas and Bobby Standridge, Jefferson; and nine grandchildren.

Born December 6, 1921, in Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late Jake and Anna Ruth Jennings. A member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, she was a faithful member of the Mission, Mother Board and the Choir. She retired as line leader from Marrell Chicken Poultry in Gainesville after 25 years of service and later worked for Russell Nursing Home, Carwood Manufacturing Company and as a home caretaker. Mrs. Berry was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Johnny Berry; children, John Berry Jr., Willie Gus (Sonny) Berry and Barbara Jean Berry.

CORNELIA – John Kenneth Caudell, 76, died Tuesday, December 29, 2009, following an extended illness.
Born in Banks County on July 18, 1933, he was the son of the late Pitner L. and Decie Coker Caudell. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cornelia and a member of the Men’s Sunday School Class. He served his country proudly in the United States Navy as a Chief Petty Officer in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He also served as an administrative assistant with the Veteran’s Administration with over 30 years of service. Mr. Caudell was preceded in death by sisters, Cora Caudell, Mary Sue Donahue, Bernice Andrews, Doris Comer; and brothers, Oscar Caudell, Hermit Caudell and Louis Caudell.
Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Betty Caudell, Jefferson; sisters and brother-in-law, Christine Ivester, Cornelia, Bonnie and Armond Goza, Tucker; and several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

DANIELSVILLE- Floy Norris Abercrombie, 94, died Wednesday, December 30, 2009, at the Hill Haven Nursing Home in Commerce.
Born in Franklin County on February 12, 1915, she was the daughter of the late James William and Effie Martin Norris. She was a homemaker and member of the Gaines Chapel Baptist Church. Mrs. Abercrombie was preceded in death by her husband, James Abercrombie; son, Frank Myers; and grandson, Greg Myers.

He was a United States Army Veteran, a member of the Unity Masonic Lodge #36 where he served as Past Master, the American Legion, and the Bethany United Methodist Church.

ATHENS - Joan Gertrude Cannady, 75, died Monday, December 28, 2009, at her residence.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late James and Gertrude Cashwell. From Ohio she moved to Clinton, N.C., where she lived until moving to Athens in 1972. She worked as a registered nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital until retirement after 48 years of service. She loved to travel the United States as well as also visiting at least 20 other countries. Her most meaningful travels were visiting her son’s family during their overseas assignments in Japan and Iceland, and participating in a medical mission trip to India in 2001 for 17 days where she was able to use her nursing experience to help those in need. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Athens.
