JEFFERSON – Rev. Hoyt Clifford Ivester, 89, formerly of the New Holland Community in Gainesville, died Monday, July 27, 2009, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville following a brief illness.
Born in Toccoa on December 26, 1919, he was the son of the late Frank and Mary Bell Massey Ivester. He made the mill village of New Holland his home most of his life. As father, grandfather, pastor and friend, he touched the lives of everyone he came in contact with. Rev. Ivester was preceded in death by his lovely wife of over 60 years, Ruby Wilson Ivester; brothers, Cortez, Pete, Paul and Buck Ivester; and a sister, Illone Ramey.
In April, 1943, he and four of his brothers went into the military and fought in World War II. Following basic training in Macon, at Camp Wheeler, he was sent overseas to Rome, Sicily and Casablanca, Italy. He served and fought honorably in Company E, 135th Infantry Regiment, 34th Infantry Division, being awarded the Purple Heart among other awards. He returned to New Holland following World War II and worked at New Holland Mill for over 40 years, retiring in 1985. Aside from working full-time in the mill, he was also a Southern Baptist Minister. He was the pastor of numerous churches in the North Georgia area to include Chattahoochee Baptist in Flowery Branch, Fairview Missionary Baptist Church in Gainesville, Grove Level in Maysville, and Pendergrass Baptist Church, in Pendergrass. He was ordained as a minister September, 1954, at Pleasant Union Baptist Church, New Holland, Gainesville.
Survivors include a daughter, Jeanne Riley, Jefferson; grandchildren, David Bruce, Todd Riley, Leah Smith, Hannah Brookshire and Timothy Riley; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Will Ivester; and sister, Jewel Martin.
Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, July 30, at 11 a.m., in the chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Carpenter officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 29, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

DANIELSVILLE – Carollette Parham Cary, 73, died Thursday, July 23, 2009, at Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens.
Born in Madison County on April 29, 1934, she was the daughter of the late John M. and Nora Wall Parham. She was a homemaker and member of the New Hope Worship Center. Mrs. Cary was preceded in death by her husband, the late Ammie C. Cary; son-in-law, Dave Parker; four brothers; and five sisters.
Survivors include a son, John Barry Cary, Danielsville; daughters, Amy Johnette Parker and Angela Carol Greenwood, both of Danielsville; a sister, Evelyn Parham, Danielsville; and two grandchildren.

Born in Jackson County, he was the son of the late William Thomas and Alma Montgomery Nix. He was retired from Roper Pump and was a member of Hudson Lodge #294 F&AM and the Bethany United Methodist Church. Mr. Nix was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva Kesler Nix.

Born in Banks County, he was the son of the late Frank and Adell Forrester Morris. He was retired from the D.O.T. and was a veteran, having served in the United States Army during World War II. JEFFERSON – Dr. Tilman “Doc” Vancel, 80, died Saturday, July 25, 2009, at Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens.
Born on June 10, 1929, in Tazewell, Claiborne County, Tenn., he was the son of the late Curtis and Ethel Vancel. His education was in the public schools of Tennessee and Lincoln Memorial University. After attending graduate school at Perdue University and the University of Tennessee, he completed his education at the University of Tennessee School of Dentistry. His dental practice in Jefferson was the delight of his and his wife Martha’s life for over 40 years.
The skies were his home and relaxation, as he flew, using a skill he first learned in high school. He was a mason, a member of Victory Baptist Church, and associated dental organizations.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Martha Vancel, Jefferson; sons, Lewis Ray Vancel, Mulberry, Ind., and Harold D. Vancel, Jefferson; stepsons, Charles and Ronnie Stanley, Milledgeville; a sister, Statia V.
