LULA – Rev. Douglas Rigsbee, 76, died Sunday, May 31, 2009, at his residence.
Born on August 29, 1932, in Durham County, N.C., he was the son of the late Walter Lee and Hallie Elizabeth Becker Rigsbee. Mr. Rigsbee was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon Elaine Rigsbee; sister, Patricia Ann Cole; and brother, W.L. Rigsbee Jr. He was a United States Army veteran having served during the Korean Conflict, and was a lifetime member of the Gainesville Chapter DAV Chapter #17. He was a Baptist minister with over 52 years of dedicated service, and was a member of the Silver Shoals Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille C. Rigsbee, Lula; sisters, Thelma Lucille Rigsbee Libke, Portland, Ore., and Edith Evelyn Rigsbee Peckham, Ft. Anderson, Wis.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 2, at 4:30 p.m., from the Silver Shoals Baptist Church with the Rev. Melvin Baugh officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday, June 1, from 6 to 9 p.m. The body will be placed in the church at 4 p.m. to lie in state until the funeral hour.
