Born in Clovis, New Mexico, he was the son of the late Gene and Marie Adkins Ward and was a former resident of Texas but had resided in Winder for the past six years. He was a member of the Winder First Baptist Church and was a retired middle school teacher.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Ward, Winder; daughter, Dawnette Cress, Santa Maria, Calif.; sons, Derrick Varnell, Ft. Worth, Texas, and Darrin Ward, Hoschton; and seven grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, July 2, at 6:30 p.m., in the chapel of Carter Funeral Home with John Talley officiating. She was a 1991 graduate of North Gwinnett High School in Suwanee, was a hairdresser, and a member of Collins Hill Baptist Church in Lawrenceville. Mrs. Pass was preceded in death by grandparents, Ralph and Dean Holman and Henry and Marvene Burel Abernathy.

He was owner of L. L. McDaniel Construction Company. Mr. McDaniel was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes Royster McDaniel.

WINDER – Steven “Zook” Woodard, 51, died Tuesday, June 23, 2009, following a hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born in Winder on March 11, 1958, he was the son of the late Donald B. Woodard and Carolyn and Sam Rooks of Winder. A 1976 graduate of Winder-Barrow High School, he served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Swaziland, South Africa, and was employed as a journeyman carpenter with Beck Construction for 10 years. Mr. Woodard was preceded in death by grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. A.G. Langley, Lytle, Texas, and Mr. & Mrs. J. Clide Anderson, Athens.
