Myrtie Lee Phillips Brock, 87, of Bowman, died Thursday, December 25, 2008, at Brown Memorial Convalescent Center in Royston.
Born in Banks County on October 19, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Talmadge Joe and Tempie Mae Hembree Phillips. She was a retired sewing machine operator and was Holiness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cleveland Curtis “Jay Bird” Brock; great-grandsons, Alex Brown and Brock Whiddon; a brother, Felton Hembree; and sisters, Naomi Baird and Susie Mae Phillips.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Lynda Brown, Commerce, Gail and Jimmy Norton, Royston, Amy and Steve Dempsey, Bowman; brother, Okie Phillips, Commerce; sister, Mary Ann Loggins, Statham; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Michael Gailey
Michael Carlton Gailey, 40, of Baldwin, died Friday, December 26, 2008, at his residence.
Born on January 5, 1968, in Stephens County, he was the son of Thomas and Pauline Gailey of Baldwin. He was a 1986 graduate of Habersham Central High School, graduated from North Georgia Technical College in electronics, and graduated from Truett-McConnell College, where he earned his associates degree. He also attended Piedmont College, and was a member of the Prospect United Methodist Church, where he was the youth group leader and a Vacation Bible School teacher. He was a copier technician with Duplicating Products and was a Banks County 4-H Club Volunteer and coach. He was an avid woodsman who loved to fish and hunt, was a beekeeper, and a woodworker, loved ones stated.
Survivors in addition to his parents, include his wife, Gina Kesler Gailey, Baldwin; daughters, Courtney Gailey and Emily Gailey, both of Baldwin; brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Laura Gailey, Baldwin; maternal grandmother, Cleola Byrd, Toccoa; paternal grandmother, Rubie Wilbanks Gailey, Baldwin; niece, Madison Gailey, Baldwin; and nephew, Morgan Gailey, Baldwin.

Lee Young Lewallen, 77, of Gainesville, and formerly of Cornelia, died Thursday, December 18, 2008, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.
Born in Banks County on November 25, 1931, he was the son of the late Corbin and Violet Williams Lewallen. Mr. Lewallen had over 40 years of law enforcement experience, including five years as the Chief of Police in Clarkesville and several years as security guard at Chestatee High School. He served our country proudly in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was Baptist. He also enjoyed traveling and was an avid baseball fan, loved ones stated.
Survivors include his companion of 30 years, Gemilda Reynolds, Gainesville and formerly of Cornelia; step-daughter, Debra Hill, Gainesville; step-sons, Jerry Cantrell, Demorest, and Anthony Cantrell, Clermont; sisters, Willie Mae Crocker, Janice Hurt and Geraldine Perry, all of Cornelia; brother, Billy Lewallen, Cornelia; special step-granddaughters, Amber Hendrixson and Brittany Hill; seven step-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; and a host of other friends and relatives.

He was a veteran, having served in the United States Army during World War II in Africa and Italy. Mr. Carter was preceded in death by his wife, Charlene Clark Carter; brothers, Billy Carter and J.B. Carter; and a son, Stanley Lamar Carter.

Born on January 13, 1949, in Toccoa, he was the son of the late J.C. and Tonnie Lillian Kessler Grant. He was a graduate of South Habersham High School, was a member of the Mt. Airy Lodge #141 F&AM and the Mountaineer Shrine Club, a Scottish Rite Club. He was a lifetime member of the Whittington Gun Club and was the co-owner of G & L Automotive for 30 years.
Survivors include his sisters and brother-in-law, Wanda and Mickey Watkins, Cornelia, Alice Kay Grant, San Antonio, Texas; and a brother, James Charles Grant, Baldwin.
