JEFFERSON – Richard Emmett Wood Sr., 61, died Sunday, September 27, 2009.
Born in Gwinnett County, he was the son of the late William Daniel Wood Sr. and Minnie Lenora Massey Wood. He was the owner of Richard E. Wood Grading and Development, and was a member of Norcross Tabernacle and the Buford Masonic Lodge#292. His real passion in life was his family and tending to his cattle on the Wood Farm. Mr. Wood was preceded in death by brothers, William D. Wood Jr. and Harold A. Wood; and a sister, Mary Chatham.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Jo Plott Wood, Jefferson; daughter and son-in-law, Karen Wood and Marty Roberts, Jefferson; sons and daughters-in-law, Richard Emmett Wood Jr. and Melanie Wood, Kenneth Daniel and Allison Wood, and Phillip Anthony Wood, all of Jefferson; brothers, Charles E. Wood Sr., Buford, Larry E. Wood, Norcross, Anthony L. Wood, Suwanee, and the Rev. Frank A. Wood, Flowery Branch; sisters, Peggy Hinson, Duluth, and Shirley Williams, Snellville; grandchildren, Morgan Wood, Cole Wood, Kylee Roberts, Dawson Wood, Will Wood, Blake Roberts, Clayton Wood, Collin Wood and Addyson Wood.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 30, at 12 p.m., in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home with the Revs. Frank Wood and Doug Chatham officiating. Burial will be in Evans Memory Gardens. Serving as pallbearers will be Keith Wood, Waylon Hoge, Jared Bailey, Lee Wood, Benji Wood and Jimmy Wood. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday, September 29, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m.
