WINDER – Walter S. McElhannon Sr., 83, died Wednesday, September 23, 2009.
Residing in Barrow County most of his life, he was the son of the late Stewart McElhannon Sr. and Anita Sims McElhannon. He was a member of the Winder First United Methodist Church and was a retired sales representative with the Mac Gregor Company of Athens. He was an Army Air Corp veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. Mr. McElhannon was preceded in death by siblings, Hazel Freeman, Dr. Fayette McElhannon, Vera Ann Thomas, and Stewart McElhannon Jr.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Pierce McElhannon, Winder; children, Melissa McElhannon, Calhoun, Tamara McElhannon, Atlanta, Patricia Rabideau, Blue Ridge, Walter S. “Mack” McElhannon Jr., Chesapeake, Va., and Ernest Pierce McElhannon, Lexington, Ky.; 14 grandchildren; and a brother, William A. McElhannon, Bay Town, Texas.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 26, at 11 a.m., in the chapel of Carter Funeral Home with the Rev. Jojo Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, September 25, from 6 to 9 p.m.
