WINDER - Charles W. Maddox, 70, died Tuesday, September 22, 2009.
Born in St. Clair County, Ala., he was the son of the late Franklin K. and Kathryn Epps Maddox. He was a retired civil engineer with the Department of Transportation, a member of the First Christian Church, and a 15 year member of the Winder Lions Club. He had served as a Sunday school teacher, Chairman of the Board, a deacon, an elder, trustee, and a former Boy Scout leader. He served as National Director of Dixie Youth Baseball for 26 years, and was part of Winder Dixie Youth for over 42 years. Mr. Maddox was preceded in death by a grandson, Rick Oxley.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Patton Maddox, Winder; sons and daughters-in-law, Wendel and Jenny Maddox, Winder, and Bryan and Bobbi Maddox, Monticello; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Sidney Day, Winder; grandchildren, Matt and Ally Maddox, Nick and Ben Oxley, Trent Maddox, and Sadie Davis; great-grandchild, Molly Davis; brothers, George Maddox, Raymond, Wash., and Larry Maddox, Meteria, La.; and sister, Melda Privette, Matthews, N.C.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 24, at 4 p.m., from First Christian Church, with the Revs. Jim Brooks and John Richardson officiating. Burial will be in Barrow Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday, September 23, from 6 to 9 p.m.

Mr Maddox is one of those people that leave an empty place in this world. My heart goes out to the family and I hope that sweet memories will comfort them in the days to come.
