‘Waddy’ Irwin

STATHAM – George “Waddy” Washington Irwin, 87, died Tuesday, September 22, 2009.

Born in Hancock County, he was the son of the late John and Molly Wall Irwin. He was retired from General Motors -Doraville Plant. He was a corporal in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II, was with the military police, worked with B29 bombers, and served in India and China. Mr. Irwin was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah J. Ware Irwin; and a son, Van Irwin.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Judy Irwin, Braselton; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 24, at 2 p.m., in the Smith Memory Chapel with Chaplain Maitland LaForce officiating. Burial will be in Statham City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday, September 23, from 5 to 8 p.m.
