HULL - Helen Juanita Hook Fields, 86, died Tuesday, September 15, 2009.
Born April 11, 1923, in Lexington, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Maxey M. Hook and Virginia Shumpert Hook Spires. Mrs. Fields was preceded in death by a daughter, Gwendolyn; her husband, the Rev. Jackson L. Fields; sister, Margaret Hook Harwell; and brother, Grover C. Hook. She was of the Baptist denomination and was a member of Central Baptist Church. She and her husband, Rev. Jackson L. Fields, a Baptist minister, together served several churches in the Northeast Georgia area.
Survivors include a son, Dr. Steven Fields, Hull; daughter and son-in-law, Vickie Fields and Bill Horton, Athens; grandchildren, Kathy Fields, Letitia (Kevin) Hardeman, Billy Horton, Marcia (Michael) Nelms and Jenni Horton; a great-granddaughter, Melody Nelms.
Graveside services will be held Friday, September 18, at 11 a.m. at Elmhurst Cemetery in Elberton with the Rev. Frank Granger of First Baptist Church, Athens, officiating. The family will receive friends at Lord and Stephens Funeral Home from 7 t 9 p.m. on Thursday, September 17. The family will be at the home of Vickie and Bill Horton, 220 Idylwood Dr., Athens, GA.
