LULA – Swayne Shubert, 65, died Friday, September 4, 2009, peacefully in his sleep at his residence.
Born in Banks County on November 6, 1943, he was the son of the late Jesse and Dollie Smith Shubert. He was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church, was a veteran having served in the United States Army with the 101st Airborne Division, a member of the local VFW, and was a Mason.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Shubert, Lula; son and daughter-in-law, Marc and Shina Shubert, Alto; grandchildren, Lauren and John Shubert; sisters and brother-in-law, Louise Sheridan, Maysville, and Annie Hastings, Royston, Mary and Clarence Orgeron, Crossville, Tenn.; brothers and sisters-in-law, William Shubert, Warner Robins, and J.T. and Shirley Shubert, Gainesville.
Mr. Shubert’s wishes were for his body to be donated to Emory University for scientific study.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, September 10, at 2 p.m., at Rock Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary Wilson officiating. Full military honors will be provided by the Grant Reeves VFW Post #7720, Rabun County DAV Chapter #15, and American Legion Post #84. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Rock Springs Baptist Church Children Church Fund, 747 Rock Springs Rd., Lula, GA 30554.
McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home, Cornelia, is in charge of arrangements.
