Troy McGarity

HARTWELL - Troy Edward McGarity, 42, died Saturday, August 29, 2009, at Athens Regional Medical Center.

He was the son of Vickie Carey York of Hartwell. He was a 1984 graduate of Elbert County High School and served in the Georgia Army National Guard. He loved NASCAR and the Georgia Bulldogs. He loved his family, especially the kids, and was “Uncle Troy” to all of them. He was a great friend. Mr. McGarity was preceded in death by a sister, Sherri McGarity Chappell; and grandparents, Z.O. and Millie Carey.

Survivors in addition to his mother include a brother and sister-in-law, Eric and Jennifer McGarity, Franklin Springs; sister and brother-in-law, Charlene and Jeremy Childs, Martin; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services were held Tuesday, September 1, in the chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with the Rev. Gettis Allen officiating.

Strickland Funeral Home, Hartwell, was in charge of arrangements.
